Mark Whitehorn

Mark is a well-recognised commentator on the computer world having published articles, white papers and books since 1987; his column in Personal Computer World is one of the longest-running database columns in the world. He specialises in database technology and Business Intelligence and has written five books. The most recent, Fast Track to MDX, was written in collaboration with Robert Zare and Mosha Pasumanski of Microsoft. Mosha was one of the originators of the MDX language.
Mark?s skills as a communicator and data practitioner have led to a rather schizophrenic career. On the academic side he is an honorary lecturer at the University of Dundee where he teaches advanced data-handling; he is also an associate senior research fellow at University College Worcester. On the more practical side he runs a consultancy company which specialises in business intelligence solutions. He also teaches a database design course and a data warehousing course for QA, the UK-based training and consultancy company.
For relaxation he collects, restores and races historic cars which keeps him out of too much trouble. The most recent project involved inserting a tank engine into a car chassis, which is why it has such a long bonnet. Mark only wears a tie under duress, doesn't possess a suit that fits and unashamedly belongs to the sandals-and-beard school of computing.
