Objects of Desire 4

Once again we tempt you with tender traps for your disposable income. Phil South brings you more gadgets and gizmos for you to enjoy...

Shutterbug buster
Taking pictures used to be such fun. Snapped films due to improper loading, bad flash pictures due to shutter or flash failure... And now compact cameras have APS, which makes life so much easier, but SLRs with APS are so expensive, aren't they? Not any more. The Pronea gives you Nikon quality for the price of a new high capacity hard drive. And you will need a new drive after you get this camera, you'll fill up many hard disks with the great pictures you'll get from this camera. It's even better than digital cameras in many ways too. Take an APS cartridge to your processing lab and they'll put it directly onto Kodak PhotoCD. Cool.

Big screen small price
And speaking of Kodak and things being way too expensive, what about video projectors, hmm? Out of your league? Well, not any more as the V600 range of video projectors has 1000 lumens and costs just £1800 (around 2700 EUR). It can project a huge TV picture on your wall in broad daylight and accepts input from your computer or your video/DVD machine. What more could you ask? Free DVDs? Well that would be nice, but it's not going to happen.

Sit! Good boy! Nice Cylon!
Looking like something out of the old '70s Battlestar Gallactica TV show, Tekno the Robot Dog (called Teksta in Europe for some reason). He can sit and stay, but better yet when he bumps into an obstacle he makes a little robotic yelp which sounds uncannily like the noise that Homer Simpson makes: DOH! He's programmable, and although not nearly as expensive as the Sony AIBO, he is just as lovable. The perfect office pet, house trained, silver, and way cool. Plus you turn them off rather than put them to bed.

Up against the wall, TV lover!
Oh yes, the flat TV... Actually it's the FlatTV from Philips. It's a TV set you can hang on your wall,  which of course uses the same technology as the flat panel monitors we love here at DNJ. Plasma flat screen TVs and LCD projector TVs are commonplace, but these are the first genuine LCD flat TVs on the market. I have a spot on the office wall just BEGGING to be covered with one.

All your info is onHand
The onHandPC is a PDA that you wear as a watch. Yes, it's the ultimate geek watch, a real PDA which hooks into Outlook and other PC software which you can wear on your wrist. Using a small joystick at the base of the screen you select items and bring information, yes even the time, up onto the tiny green screen. There are as yet no plans to port Word to the device, but then what kind of masochist would even contemplate writing letters on their watch? Not as powerful as a PocketPC or a Palm, but much cooler than either of them.
