Objects of Desire 6
Feel as though you want to have your MP3s at your fingertips?
Phil South checks out the latest Sony MP3 player which HAS to be the
smallest yet.
Brand
new in Japan, coming soon to Europe, the new Sony Network Walkman NW-E8P.
It's the smallest ever by dint of all being crammed into it's own
headphones. Yes, that's right you just put on the headphones and there's
nothing to connect them to.
According to the press release we translated via AltaVista from the
Sony web site, Flash memory is built in to the headphones, and music is
transferred to the unit via a USB connection from your PC. Of course one
thing that Sony are known for is the quality of their headphones and the
tiny size of their products. This has both these qualities in abundance.
And finally, we couldn't resist. A couple of gems from the Japanese
press release: "Therefore flash memory, shaking, vibrating, sound it does not
fly" and "back light equipped liquid crystal display which can verify tune turn and the like even at the dark
place". AltaVista should really look into their Japanese translation,
but I guess translating from Japanese on the fly at all is like the 18th
Century quip about the dog standing on it's hind legs: "it's not done
well, but it's quite astounding that it's done at all".
