Classical problems
We have long been admirers of Microsoft Product Support Services, and the sheer volume of advice on offer from the Support Knowledge Base. It was therefore with some gratification that we stumbled upon Q261186, entitled ‘Computer Randomly Plays Classical Music’. To quote:
“During normal operation or in Safe mode, your computer may play ‘Fur Elise’ or ‘It's a Small, Small World’ seemingly at random. This is an indication sent to the PC speaker from the computer's BIOS that the CPU fan is failing or has failed, or that the power supply voltages have drifted out of tolerance. This is a design feature of a detection circuit and system BIOSes developed by Award/Unicore from 1997 on. You may want to have your computer checked or serviced.”

Discovered by our Art Editor, it was quickly nominated by the rest of the editorial team for the ‘Weirdest Site Ever’ award. Other potential candidates can put themselves forward by sending their URL to DNJ@mattmags.com.

Sheer Stupidity
Looking for the perfect gift for a loved one? Then look no further than www.stupid.com. We were particularly taken with the Hot Talk BBQ Spatula, which says things like, “Now we're cooking!” (yours for just $15.99, and that includes the batteries!) Or there’s the Laptop Buddah: “Place this deity on top of your monitor and your computer will be protected by a protective aura of instant karma.” Failing that, how about the email address yourname@stupid.com?
